Dressing the Ladies...

Although the wedding gown is typically the center of attention at a wedding, the bridesmaids' dresses play an important role in complimenting the bride. Conventionally, the responsibility of choosing the style, color, and fabric for the bridesmaids’ dresses, is bestowed upon the bride and she takes this responsibility as a privilege to do so.
As I found out this weekend, choosing a bridesmaid dress is both fun and tiring. Although I had four appointments set up for Saturday {and yes, we made it to all of them}, we ended up finding exactly what I wanted at the first store. Without giving too much away: the dress is floor-length, strapless, and flattering on all body types. While this may seem like it was an easy decision, there is a lot that a bride needs to consider when choosing a bridesmaid dress. Here is what I learned this weekend:
1. Color Them Beautiful: Look for colors you like and that you think would look good on your friends. Usually the bridesmaids' dresses match the colors of the wedding. Our wedding colors are light purple and light green, so the dresses will match that color scheme!
2. Find the Right Feel: Make sure to feel the material of each dress and not just look for style. We saw several different types of material this weekend such as chiffon, velvet, satin, etc. Given the month of our wedding and the overall look I was going for, we chose to go with a chiffon material.
3. One Size Does Not Fit All: When searching for dresses it is crucial to think about each bridesmaid  individually. I have 8 wonderful ladies with 8 different bodies. Although because of my “type A” personality I want all the bridesmaids to wear the same dress, I made sure to consider different body types and chose a dress that will be flattering on all the girls.
4. Sweet Simplicity: There will be so many beautiful dresses to chose from, but keep in mind that you want the dresses to compliment the bridal gown, not overpower it. It is said that if the dress of the bride is a floor-length gown, then her bridesmaids should wear the same length dress. In addition, the more formal the wedding, the longer the dress.
5. Don’t Go The Distance: Some of the best news I got this weekend was that the ordering process can be done from a distance. With a multi-city bridal party, the girls don’t actually need to be present at the store to order their dresses. Each girl can get measured in her hometown and call in the measurements to the bridal store in Nashville. The bridal store will place the order and ship each girl her dress. This is perfect for bridal parties that don’t have time to all meet in one place!
I could not be more thankful for my MOHs'  help this weekend. We had a blast going from store to store, doing some personal shopping, and going out for great dinners. Kayln and Anna even surprised me with a gift from my entire bridal party. The bridesmaids each wrote me a letter {all on super cute stationary} and together gave me a book by the knot titled “Ultimate Wedding Lookbook”. It was such a sweet gift and the letters were really thoughtful.

What a successful weekend! Hope you all had fun!
