There are certain wedding traditions that go back over a century. Most brides still acknowledge these traditions, and some women put a twist on the traditions to fit their modern lives.
The Tradition: The good luck mantra that calls for brides to have "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" originated in the Victorian period. The tradition of "Something Old" represents continuity. An “old” item is meant to signify a continued connection with the bride’s family and her past. Traditionally, this often meant wearing your mother's or grandmother's wedding dress.
The Twist: Now, many brides choose to wear a piece of antique family jewelry or a vintage accessory. The item worn is usually a family heirloom. Give an heirloom brooch a new look by attaching it to a wide piece of ribbon and wearing it as a cuff.
If you don't have a family heirloom to wear, look at vintage stores for a timeless piece of jewelry. One great place to looks is "What Goes Around Comes Around" located in New York and LA. The store has tons of antique jewelry by Chanel and other designers.
Recently, my grandmother gave me her engagement ring, so I may try and use the diamond from her ring to create a unique piece of jewelry for my wedding day.

I love that you got your grandmother's engagement ring - precious keepsake!
This is so sweet, so neat that your grandmother gave you her ring. I am sure you have thought of this, but I love when brides list there something old, new, borrowed, blue on the back of their wedding programs. Always is fun to know what they are!
Haden- that is a great idea!
